Over the course of almost 3 decades (and counting), Greenway Associates have provided Cost Consultancy for each Firmdale Hotels project. Mark Greenway, founder of Greenway Associates, was originally appointed as Quantity Surveyor for Tim & Kit Kemp’s Covent Garden Hotel in 1994. This was to be our first of many projects with Firmdale Hotels, that have ranged from small private members’ clubs to the ultra successful Ham Yard Hotel.

The services we provide to Firmdale Hotels include the traditional quantity surveying services of cost planning, procurement and post-contract cost management of trade contracts. However we also provide feasibility studies, value engineering, project management support and tax analyses. We prepare detailed budgets for the soft furnishings which feature so creatively in all of Firmdale Hotels’ projects.  When funders are needed, we liaise closely with these to facilitate transparent and timely drawdowns.

Firmdale Hotels strongly favour construction management as their procurement route. They have the necessary in-house expertise and confidence to develop their own sites and act as their own construction manager.  On this basis, construction management works extremely well.

Over the years we have seen significant benefits from adopting this procurement route.  It engenders a strong sense of trust between client and contractor as the contractual links are very direct.  Payments can be swift and long-term relationships developed. It also allows for cost effective flexibility if site conditions necessitate adjustments to programme or design.
