Oman Across Ages Museum

The Oman Across Ages Museum is a new national museum that celebrates the rich cultural history of Oman.

It has a focus on the country’s economic, cultural and social renaissance since the 1970’s, and also includes a considerable educational program for locals and visitors alike.

After almost 9 years in the making, the Oman Across Ages Museum officially opened on the 15th March 2023.

OUR ROLE

Greenway Associates began working on the project in 2014 in the role of Cost Consultant. Jared Mensah was team leader on this project.

We started at masterplanning stage to ascertain the feasibility of the project. Interestingly, this involved undertaking a detailed cost appraisal and review of the architectural submissions for the 66,000m2 building. This was done by analysing each architectural design option and establishing their potential costs. This analysis, in conjunction with other tender evaluation criteria, was used as a basis for selecting the preferred architect Cox Architecture.

We undertook all cost management services for for the entire exhibition fitout works from inception to completion. This included multiple exhibition packages ranging from simple graphic panels to complex audio-visual immersive experiences. 

PROJECT DETAILS

The museum is one of the largest of its kind in the Gulf region and was commissioned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said al-Said.

The exhibition used cutting edge audio-visual experiences, intricate models and interactives, all set within extensive immersive environments.

PROJECT CHALLENGES

One of the biggest challenges on this project was in the “Towards a Sustainable Economy” pavilion, which was an enclosed theatre constructed within the shell of the main building. 

This was essentially a ‘building within a building’ and required its own MEP and fire control systems provision whilst also functioning as a complex interactive exhibit.
